MARTA’s New Breeze Upgrades Are Changing the Way Buckhead Commutes

As Buckhead continues preparing for increased growth ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026, transit accessibility and convenience are becoming more important than ever. Fortunately, MARTA is rolling out major upgrades to its Breeze fare system that will make riding transit easier, faster, and more flexible for Buckhead commuters, residents, and visitors alike.

From tapping your phone at faregates to using virtual Breeze cards directly in mobile wallets, these updates are modernizing the transit experience across the region and creating exciting opportunities for Buckhead employees and employers who rely on alternative transportation every day.

Tap-to-Pay Is Here

One of the biggest improvements becoming available across the MARTA system is the ability to tap a bank card or mobile wallet directly at faregates and bus validators.

That means commuters can now use:

  • Tap-enabled credit or debit cards
  • Apple Wallet
  • Google Wallet
  • Samsung Wallet

This eliminates the need for many riders to purchase or reload a physical transit card before traveling. Whether someone is commuting into Buckhead for work, attending an event, or visiting the district during the World Cup, getting onto transit is becoming significantly more seamless.

For Buckhead employers, this improvement also lowers barriers for occasional transit riders who may want to try MARTA for the first time but were previously unfamiliar with purchasing fares or navigating the Breeze system.

What This Means for Buckhead Commuters

Easier fare payment options can directly improve the commuter experience by:

  • Reducing wait times at stations
  • Making transit more appealing for hybrid employees
  • Supporting event-based travel into the district
  • Encouraging first-time riders to try MARTA

These station upgrades are helping prepare the region for larger transit demand in the years ahead.

Preparing for FIFA World Cup 2026

MARTA will operate trains every 5 minutes, providing frequent service to move large crowds efficiently while reducing wait times and platform congestion.

Visitors traveling between hotels, fan zones, restaurants, offices, and match-related events will need intuitive and accessible transportation options.

MARTA Tools for Riding Confidently

One of the most valuable resources available to riders is the MARTA See & Say App, a free mobile safety tool that allows customers to quickly and discreetly report concerns directly to MARTA Police.

Features of the See & Say App include:

  • Text-based reporting of suspicious activity, safety concerns, or maintenance issues
  • The ability to submit photos directly to MARTA Police
  • Two-way communication with dispatchers for real-time updates
  • Location-based reporting to help responders quickly identify where assistance is needed
  • Emergency call functionality for urgent situations

Combined with MARTA Police presence at stations and onboard trains, the See & Say App helps create a more confident transit experience for both everyday riders and first-time users exploring Atlanta.

Important Reminders for Riders

As faregate construction continues throughout the system, MARTA is reminding riders that:

  • Open gates do not mean rides are free
  • Riders should still be prepared to pay fares
  • Balance transfers from old Breeze cards are available through October 30
  • The new Breeze Mobile app is for account management only and cannot currently be tapped at faregates

Customers who need Reduced Fare or Mobility Breeze cards can also visit MARTA Headquarters near Lindbergh Center Station for assistance.
