Georgia Leads the Way in Pollinator Protection
Georgia turned out strong for the 2025 Great Southeast Pollinator Census, showing real commitment to the bees, butterflies, and other insects that keep our ecosystems thriving. Of the 27,048 counts submitted across the Southeast, Georgians contributed 13,432. That enthusiasm was also visible in the 395 new pollinator habitats planted statewide, helping bring Georgia’s total to 2,875 new gardens since the Census began in 2019.
Educators made the Census part of hands-on STEM learning too, with 332 Georgia teachers joining in. Creative leaders like Tori Arp from Blue Ridge Elementary kept students smiling while learning outdoors. Even local businesses stepped up. Slow Pour Brewery in Gwinnett welcomed neighbors to count pollinators while enjoying time together.
Cities are cheering on the effort. The Mayor of Winder officially declared August 22 and 23 as Pollinator Census Days. These partnerships show that every corner of the state can pitch in to protect the species that help put food on our tables.
Buckhead continues to grow its own network of pollinator friendly spaces, including gardens along PATH400 and at Garden 684, offering residents a place to observe and support nature close to home. Livable Buckhead is proud to be part of a statewide movement that proves small actions lead to big results.
Thank you to everyone who counted, planted, and learned this year. Georgia’s pollinators are better off because of you.
