Live. Work. Buckhead: A Recruitment Advantage for Employers Shaping Buckhead’s Workforce

 In Employer, Housing

Live. Work. Buckhead is not just a housing program, it is a powerful recruitment and retention tool for Buckhead employers navigating an increasingly competitive labor market and a deepening housing affordability crisis. As rising rents push workers farther from job centers, longer commutes are driving burnout, absenteeism, and turnover. This employer assisted housing initiative directly addresses that challenge by making it realistic for employees to live closer to where they work.

Through a $400 monthly rent subsidy, the program reduces housing pressure while strengthening workforce stability. Employers contribute only $200 per month, with remaining support provided through public and philanthropic funding. For just over $2,700 per employee annually, including administrative and payroll costs, employers deliver a highly visible $4,800 benefit that significantly enhances their ability to attract and retain talent.

The impact is clear. Sixty applications have been received, with 32 employees fully approved and participating. Among current participants, only one employee has left their employer, resulting in an exceptional 93 percent retention rate. In a workforce climate defined by churn and rising recruitment costs, this level of stability represents a direct competitive advantage.

For employees, the program is genuinely transformative. One participant shared that the program replaced a punishing 54-mile daily commute with the opportunity to finally live in Buckhead, dramatically improving their quality of life. This lived experience becomes a powerful recruitment message that resonates with future applicants.

I’m a huge fan of Livable Buckhead — it’s transformed living here into a practical, enjoyable reality. Before, I faced a grueling 54-mile daily commute. Now, I live right in Buckhead. It’s a win-win!
