Description:  The City has initiated legislation to amend the SPI-12 ordinance to establish a new subarea 4 to accommodate Piedmont Center and adjacent properties.  Jessica Hill, attorney representing the impacted property owners, walked the committee through the proposed amendment highlighting the differences from the current subarea 1 which was the basis for the new subarea.  Key considerations include limitation of the height for office development to 100 feet, protection from traffic on Old Ivy Road and the incorporation of the more stringent parking overlay district requirements.

Recommendations:

Committee members were pleased with the amendment and commended the developers on working with the City, NPU and DRC to craft ordinance language that is acceptable to all.

The Development Committee does not expect to see this applicant again unless significant changes are made to the proposed plans that necessitate additional variations or the City staff requests additional input from the DRC.
