Water Quality Testing Program
We’re looking for our fellow water enthusiasts to join us in helping to monitor the health our Buckhead waterways. Livable Buckhead’s Water Quality Testing Program was established last year in partnership with Georgia Adopt-a-Stream. Volunteers are trained on how to perform chemical testing, and help us measure the following:
- Temperature: Temperature affects feeding, respiration, and aquatic metabolism.
- Dissolved oxygen. Needed for respiration for all aquatic life
- pH: Aquatic organisms are sensitive to pH fluctuations. The state standard for pH is between 6 and 8.5, but some Georgia waters may have pH as low as 3.5.
We’re happy to report that the data collected to date has shown consistent numbers and no incidents so far. We’d love for more volunteers to get involved and sign up to monitor a local waterway. Don’t be intimidated! You don’t need a background in science and it doesn’t take long to do.
