27th Annual Hambidge Art Auction + Performance Party

Presented by PNC, the 27th Annual Hambidge Art Auction + Performance Party will take place in person on September 10 from 7-10PM, in the newly renovated Atrium at Uptown Atlanta, the vibrant mixed-use community surrounding the Lindbergh MARTA station. The Performance Party will honor Hambidge Fellow, author, and award-winning chef, Steven Satterfield and his restaurant, Miller Union. Everyone is invited to the creative playground of Atlanta’s most-talked-about art event, surrounded by incredible artwork and
unique performances.
In addition to a variety of playful fun and games, the Performance Party will feature an exciting lineup. Artist and Curator Didi Dunphy will bring her sense of fun to the event with her signature interactive play sculptures, a participatory “Craft Table” performance, and an artful scavenger hunt. In “The Games We Dance,” performers from Bautanzt Here, a site-specific dance theatre based in Atlanta, will activate the Atrium with dynamic performances based on the concept of play, reimagining well-known games through the lens of dance and remarkable costuming. The improvisations of Quinn Mason and Dan Carey Bailey blend acoustic, electric and electronic sounds, creating winding paths along evolving soundscapes that shift between ambient textures and exciting rhythms. Skillshot Media, the premier esports production company headquartered at Uptown, will present the game “Beat Saber,” a virtual reality rhythm game that combines original music with lightsaber slashing in a surrealistic neon environment.
The Silent Auction features over 200 works by emerging and established artists from across the region, including Kehinde Wiley, Lonnie Holly, Jiha Moon and Michi Meko—plus a selection of one-of-a-kind artful experiences up for bid. To kick-start your art collection (and score some great deals), there will be over two hundred $100 fixed-price works of art up for grabs. Kicking off with a public Opening Reception on Saturday, August 27, 11AM-2PM, the artwork will be available to view in person by appointment August 30 through September 9 (closed September 2-5 / Labor Day Weekend). The Art Auction raises nearly a third of Hambidge’s operating budget which includes a creative residency program where 180+ talented artists visit Hambidge each year to focus on their work and rejuvenate their creative spirits. In addition to providing necessary operating funds, the Auction directly supports participating artists with up to 40% of auction sales.
Uptown, which is owned by Rubenstein Partners, is nearing the completion of redevelopment construction to transform the 47-acre property into a hyperacessible destination for the community. Since redevelopment efforts began in 2020, Rubenstein has activated the property with community events and artful experiences, including the Cross-Pollination Art Lab, a Hambidge initiative that reimagined 18,000 square feet of vacant retail space into a creative ecosystem where artists all of types can share ideas and experiment. Since 2020, the lab has awarded dozens of artists rent-free studio, exhibition and performance space. This evolving, creative playground celebrates experimentation among Atlanta’s diverse and dynamic arts community. Lela Brunet, a Hambidge Fellow, is currently bringing to life a series of beautiful murals at Uptown.
