Buckhead and The Infrastructure, Investment and Jobs Act

 In Community, Legislation, Mobility

Livable Buckhead has been closely watching the development of the historic bipartisan infrastructure bill over the past several months. This momentous legislation includes new policies and funding that will benefit not only national infrastructure projects but also forge the path for critical mobility and TDM activities. Support of the passage of this bill could mean:

  • Providing welcomed updates and additional funding to the Congestion Relief and Congestion Mitigation programs. Some updates include provisions for the creation of multimodal infrastructure and eligibility for supporting and advocating for micro-mobility systems, such as bike share programs.
  • Prioritizing complete street programs and initiatives that increase accessibility and safety for bikers, pedestrians, and even motorists.
  • The modernization of public transit systems across the country alongside the allocation of funding for significant rail expansions. Funding for the conversion of bus fleets to zero-emission vehicles is also proposed as part of the larger facelift for public transit.
  • The rehabilitation of hundreds of thousands of miles of roads and bridges across the country, something that most communities will have to face as many components of our infrastructure age. Nearly 45,000 bridges to date are in need of major upgrades and repairs.

The bipartisan infrastructure bill includes funding for a variety of other infrastructure and transportation initiatives that impact the work we do at Livable Buckhead. We encourage active participation by Buckhead residents, commuters, and stakeholders in the legislative process and implore our community to further research some of the key components of this bill that may elevate our neighborhoods.
