8 Days of Sustainability: A Call to Art
**Guest Blog by Mindy Boggs, founder and CEO of The Live Well Companies, LLC**
MOST PEOPLE LOVE ART- it can inspire us to be our BEST selves. That’s why communities invest in public ART. That’s why commercial enterprises invest in corporate collections, or sponsor ART exhibits. Have you ever stood in front of a magnetic creation like Todd Murphy’s in the lobby of The Sovereign Building in Buckhead? Or Aziz Kadmiri’s massive painting in motion on the back wall of Little Alley Steakhouse Buckhead’s main dining room? Or stood in front of any original painting or sculpture, that just STIRS YOUR SOUL?
ART can also soothe our soul, transport us elsewhere, tell our stories, provide us with a different perspective, remind us of our ideals, as well as our pitfalls. ART can enhance our private world, as well as the world we share. So, Buckhead, here’s your CALL to ART! Whenever you get the opportunity to support ART- whether visual or performing- the kind that inspires you- just DO IT! Remember to keep ART in your HeART… let me show you how easy it is to jump in!
Once upon a time there was a small village by the name of Buckhead. Buckhead measured just 28 square miles wide. Although it was small, the people who lived, worked, and played there understood something extraordinary in their time. They all knew what it meant to co-create a sustainable community. Collectively, as a community, as businesses, government entities, and as individuals, they all valued the 8 Pillars of Sustainability.
Because they valued the 8 Pillars of Sustainability, they incorporated these values into their everyday decisions, and choices, which they knew, not only affected them personally, but also affected everyone else who lived, worked, and played in the village, and Beyond. Because they did this, they enjoyed a much higher quality of life, and their happiness quotient was much higher, than people in many other villages. They also knew the value, and gift, of teaching the 8 Pillars of Sustainability to their children, and grandchildren. And because the people who lived, worked and played in the village of Buckhead shared these values, and lived by these values, their children, and grandchildren, lived happily ever after, and so on… indefinitely.
Stories, as an ART form, have been passed down from the beginning of time, first orally, then written, to teach and inspire humanity. We are co- creators of our story- by our thoughts and actions, what we do, and how we do it, creates the story of Humankind. What do you want OUR story to look like, Buckhead?
