2024 State of Buckhead Survey Reveals Key Shifts in Community Perceptions and Priorities

Results show significant improvement in public safety, growing concern about traffic

ATLANTA – March 24, 2025 – Livable Buckhead has released findings from its 2024 State of Buckhead Survey, providing a fresh look at how residents, businesses and employees view the community today compared to previous years. Conducted between September and November 2024, the survey builds on data collected in 2020 and 2022, identifying key trends that are shaping the future of Buckhead.

Key Findings of the 2024 State of Buckhead Survey:

  • Improved Safety Perceptions: Concerns about crime remain, but the percentage of people who feel safe in Buckhead has increased significantly since 2022, continuing a steady improvement since 2020. This year, 48% of respondents report feeling “safe” or “very safe,” a notable increase from 41% in 2022 and 28% in 2020.
  • Crime Declines, Traffic Surges as Top Concerns: Crime remains the most important issue to survey respondents, but it declined by 10 points since 2022 and 26 points since 2020. Meanwhile, traffic congestion has surged in importance, increasing by 10 points since 2022.
  • Growing Demand for Green Space Connectivity: While maintaining parks has remained the top greenspace priority since 2020, interest in expanding walking and biking connections to parks has increased significantly over time. In 2024, 37% of workers rated these connections as important, up from 26% in 2022.
  • Declining Support for High-Density Housing: Overall support for increased housing density near transit stations has declined 7% since 2022 but is strong among people ages 25 to 34 (71% in favor). Similarly, support for accessory dwelling units (or carriage houses) declined overall, but is high among people 25 to 34 years old (66% support).
  • Buckhead Embraces EVs: One in four residents (25%) and more than one in three commuters (35%) now report owning or leasing an electric vehicle.
  • Fewer Employees Work from Home Full-Time: In 2024, only 24% of workers report working from home full-time, down from 30% in 2022 and 34% in 2020. However, hybrid work remains prevalent, with many employees working remotely at least part of the week.

“The 2024 survey highlights how Buckhead is evolving — people feel safer, but traffic is becoming a bigger challenge,” said Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead. “It’s encouraging to see concerns about safety showing such marked improvement since 2020, but it’s also clear that mobility solutions will be key to addressing community priorities moving forward.”
