2022 State of Buckhead Survey

The Results

In September 2022, Livable Buckhead surveyed nearly 2,900 people who live, work, and spend time in Buckhead to understand what they value about the community and where improvements are most needed.

What did we learn? Overall perceptions of Buckhead are improving. More people now agree that Buckhead is a safe place to live—41% in 2022 compared to 32% in 2020—and confidence in both local leadership and the City of Atlanta’s responsiveness also increased. While crime remains the top concern, the share of respondents citing it as the most important issue declined sharply, from 66% in 2020 to 50% in 2022.

People continue to be drawn to Buckhead for its prestige, shopping, restaurants, and family-friendly environment. Residents also value access to good schools and proximity to jobs, while newer issues such as recycling, stormwater management, and tree protection gained traction in 2022. The survey also highlighted how the community is changing. More than half of respondents now work from home at least three days a week, and there is broad interest in new greenspace projects like HUB404 and strong support for PATH400. Nearly half of residents favor allowing carriage houses in single-family neighborhoods, and two in five support greater housing density near MARTA stations

These and other findings from the survey will help Livable Buckhead and its partnering organizations — the Buckhead Coalition, Buckhead Community Improvement District and the Buckhead Business Association – refine our programs and prioritize our work in the coming years. Thank you to everyone who participated and took time to share their perspective on living and working in Buckhead.
