A Commitment to Service: Dieuseul J Isme

 In Community, Employer, Housing, Safety

For one Atlanta Police Department officer, the decision to serve came from a place of deep-rooted responsibility. “I’ve always felt called to help others—especially during their hardest moments,” he said. “Being able to guide people through chaos and offer calm… that’s what drew me to law enforcement.”

Officer Isme’s journey to Atlanta Police Department wasn’t easy. The police academy pushed him to his limits—physically, mentally, and emotionally. “It taught me more than laws and tactics,” he said. “It built my resilience. I had to dig deep and show up every day with purpose.” What helped him stay the course? Mentorship. “One mentor told me, ‘Every interaction matters.’ That stuck with me. The way you treat every person—victim, suspect, or stranger—defines the officer you become.”

Serving in Atlanta has brought rewards he never expected. “The job changes you,” he said. “It teaches empathy, quick thinking, and humility. Every shift is a chance to make a difference—even in small ways.” That desire to serve more deeply is what led him to apply for the Livable Buckhead Officer Housing Program. “Living in the community I patrol just made sense,” he explained. “It allows me to be present beyond the badge. I’m not just responding to calls—I’m living side by side with the people I protect.”

Since moving to Buckhead, everything has shifted. “I see familiar faces on the trail, at the grocery store, at local events. I’m approachable, I listen, and people feel comfortable coming to me with concerns.” That proximity also gives him an edge in addressing public safety issues. “I know when traffic patterns shift or when a certain street feels off. That firsthand experience helps me be proactive.”

Dieuseul regularly walks PATH400, greets local business owners, and participates in neighborhood meetings when possible. “It’s the little interactions that build trust,” he said. “Those moments make law enforcement feel human again.” Financially, the monthly housing subsidy has been a big relief.

“Let’s be real—Atlanta’s cost of living is rising fast. This program eases that burden so I can focus on work, not rent. It’s improved my quality of life and my focus on the job.”

The program’s impact goes beyond just his own experience. “Having more officers living in Buckhead strengthens safety. We’re visible. We’re part of the fabric of the community.” Still, he urges residents to stay alert. “We’ve seen a rise in vehicle break-ins—often preventable. Don’t leave valuables or firearms in your car. Stay aware.”

Officer Isme described the application process for the Livable Buckhead Officer Housing Program as refreshingly smooth and well-organized. “Everything was clearly explained, and the team was responsive and respectful throughout,” he said. “It was clear from the start that they understand the unique needs and pressures first responders face.”

When asked whether he would recommend the program to other officers, his answer was immediate.

“Absolutely. This program isn’t just about securing housing—it’s about building stronger, safer neighborhoods from within. Living in the community you serve changes the way you work, and it deepens the connection with the people around you.”
