Fifth-Annual Holiday Ham Haul Provides Christmas Eve Meals for Every Fire Station and Police ZoneLivable Buckhead Lights Up the Holiday Season with Festive Events
Buckhead Rotary, Livable Buckhead, Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation and other volunteers set to assemble and deliver 49 hot meals and all the fixin’s for first responders
ATLANTA – December 20, 2024 – A holiday tradition born during the COVID pandemic continues next week when Buckhead volunteers provide a delicious meal for every firefighter and police officer working in Atlanta on Christmas Eve.
The Holiday Ham Haul got its start in 2020, a time of low morale among police officers and firefighters. Denise Starling, executive director of the nonprofit Livable Buckhead and current president of Buckhead Rotary, rallied the community to show support for these first responders by assembling and delivering a hot, delicious meal to every police zone and fire station in the city.
“The Holiday Ham Haul has become a tradition for all the volunteers, and it is a joy to see how much the first responders appreciate this show of support every year,” said Starling. “Firefighters and police officers protect the public 365 days a year, which means many of them are working during the holidays while we are all enjoying time with family and friends. Giving them a nice meal on Christmas Eve is our way to say thank you.”
On Christmas Eve morning, about 25 volunteers will gather and assemble a meal that includes Honeybaked ham, several sides and a Southern Baked pie. 15 teams will then fan out across Atlanta, delivering a Christmas Eve dinner to all Atlanta Fire Rescue Stations and Atlanta Police Department Zones.
The dinner is made possible through a partnership between Buckhead Rotary, Livable Buckhead and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation and is sponsored by Audi Atlanta, The Buckhead Coalition, Georgia Primary Bank, Oldcastle and Dental Implant & Aesthetic Specialists of Atlanta.
