Walk MORE this May!

 In Community

GUEST POST By Susan G. Komen® Greater Atlanta

On May 4th, the Komen Atlanta MORE THAN PINK Walk™ returns to Lenox Square. This is the sixth year Komen Atlanta will host its signature event in the heart of Buckhead.

The MORE THAN PINK Walk™ is a key event that supports Komen’s Bold Goal to reduce breast cancer deaths in the US by 50% by 2026.  It brings together the entire Atlanta community in Buckhead as supporters, survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer to honor those who have been lost to the disease and to raise funds to provide breast cancer services in metro Atlanta and to support cutting edge research to find the cures.

This year, the event dovetails with buckheadWALKS! – a month-long competition that challenges people to take as many steps as they can in May. The competition encourages commuting on foot or attending a buckheadWALKS! event as individuals  or as a team with prizes for both. This makes the MORE THAN PINK Walk™ the perfect event in which to participate and build up points for the challenge.

The MORE THAN PINK Walk™ follows a 2.5-mile route through Buckhead on iconic Peachtree Street with friends, families, co-workers and neighbors.

For Stacy Hughes, Senior Vice President, IT Governance, Risk and Compliance for Global Payments, supporting Komen Atlanta by participating in the MORE THAN PINK Walk™ is a simple way for the entire community to play a role in the fight against breast cancer.  Global Payments, who recently moved their HQ offices to Buckhead, is the 2019 Heroes for Hope sponsor for the Atlanta MORE THAN PINK Walk™.

“As a breast cancer survivor, I can tell you that it is so important to continue to support Komen Atlanta so that we can raise funds for education, programming that supports screenings and research into advanced stage breast cancer” said Hughes. “I am proud to be a part of the Global Payments family, which understands the importance of bringing the entire Buckhead community together to support those who have battled or who are battling breast cancer.”

Komen Atlanta MORE THAN PINK Walk™ on-site registration opens on Saturday, May 4 at 6:30 a.m. At 8:00 a.m., survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer will march down the Pathway of Hope to the opening ceremony and celebration. The event concludes with  post-walk activities from 8:45-10 a.m.
