Turning Food Scraps Into Community Impact

 In Compost

On March 2, Livable Buckhead officially launches BuckheadComposts, a new, free composting program for multifamily apartment and condominium communities across Buckhead. Funded through an EPA grant, the program provides one full year of composting service at no cost to participating properties, including bins, resident education, and ongoing support.

Aven Chastain is among the first properties to join the program. Located along the Chastain Park corridor, the modern apartment community emphasizes walkability, connection, and sustainability, making BuckheadComposts a natural fit.

“Sustainability is an important part of how we build community, and this composting program allows our residents to make a difference without changing their routine,” said a representative from Aven Chastain. “We’re thrilled to partner on an initiative that aligns with our residents’ values.”

Another early participant, Brookwood Place Condos, is a long-established residential community serving a diverse mix of homeowners in the southern Buckhead area. For the association, operational reliability was a critical factor in joining the program.

“Weekly pickups and regular bin cleaning were key for us,” said Paige Vaughn, Property Manager at Brookwood Place Condos. “No odors, no pests, no added burden on our staff. It just works.”

BuckheadComposts is designed to remove the most common barriers to composting in multifamily buildings. Weekly pickups and routine bin cleaning help prevent smells and pests, while Livable Buckhead handles setup, signage, and resident education. The result is a clean, simple system that diverts food waste from landfills, reduces methane emissions, and turns scraps into nutrient-rich soil. Spots in the program are limited, and only a few openings remain for the March launch. Residents who live in apartments or condominiums and want their building to participate are encouraged to submit their property for consideration. Livable Buckhead will coordinate directly with property managers or HOAs to handle enrollment.
