Artist Wallace Kelly’s Picnic Tables
A Unique Blend of Art and Functionality
Enhance your visit to Garden 684 by experiencing the vibrant artistry of Wallace Kelly. Our picnic area features five beautifully designed picnic tables, each a testament to the power of community and creativity.
The Story Behind the Tables
On August 1, 2020, Livable Buckhead, Pebble Tossers, Friends of Mountain Way Common, and a group of dedicated volunteers gathered for a sunny and fun Saturday morning to create something truly special for Mountain Way Common visitors. Adhering to safety protocols, including wearing masks, they set out to transform ordinary picnic tables into extraordinary works of art.
The Creative Process
- Design: Atlanta-based artist Wallace Kelly crafted the unique designs that now adorn the tables. His vision was to create pieces that not only serve a functional purpose but also bring joy and inspiration to those who use them.
- Construction: Livable Buckhead’s executive director, Denise Starling, took on the task of building the tables herself in her garage during her spare time, demonstrating true dedication to the project.
- Community Involvement: The painting process was a fantastic opportunity to foster community spirit. Volunteers from various organizations came together to paint the tables, promoting art in public spaces, encouraging teamwork, and making a tangible impact in the community.
Enjoying the Picnic Tables
These tables are not just for picnics; they are a perfect spot for:
- Family Gatherings: Spend quality time with loved ones in a beautiful and unique setting.

Bee Habitat at Garden 684
A Buzzing Addition to Our Urban Oasis
Livable Buckhead, Doc’s Healing Hives, and Buckhead Rotary Club all helped develop the bee habitat at 684 Mountain Drive, right next to Mountain Way Common Park. This exciting addition not only enhances the local Buckhead community park but also serve as a valuable amenity to PATH400.
About the Bee Habitat
Our bee habitat includes bee hives and a pollinator garden, offering a unique educational opportunity to showcase the vital role bees play in our ecosystem. Bees are crucial for maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity, providing the essential service of pollination that makes food production possible.
Key Features
- Bee Hives: Under the guidance of Tim Doherty, founder of Doc’s Healing Hives, we established bee hives that have become a thriving part of Garden 684. Doc’s Healing Hives is a non-profit organization that helps veterans heal through the therapeutic experience of managing their own bee hives.
- Pollinator Garden: Our volunteers have laid the groundwork for a vibrant pollinator garden that will nourish our bee hives. This garden features a variety of plants that are essential for the bees’ diet and well-being.
Community Involvement
Our dedicated volunteers established the base for the pollinator garden and constructed and painted the fence that protect the hives and garden. Additionally volunteers helped to plant the garden and place the hives at the park, bringing this exciting project to life.
We invite you to visit Garden 684 and explore our new bee habitat. Witness firsthand how bees contribute to our ecosystem and gain insights into sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and the community.
