Buckhead residents now have an exciting new way to stay active, connect, and enjoy the outdoors with the opening of the Old Ivy Fitness Tunnel. This innovative outdoor gym, located near PATH400 and Old Ivy Park, transforms an underpass into a vibrant wellness destination featuring six fitness machines. The equipment includes a cross-country ski machine, rowing machine, leg extension, air walker, and accessible two-person machines designed for chest press and lateral pull/vertical press, making it inclusive for older adults and people with disabilities.

Led by Livable Buckhead and supported by a grant from Park Pride, this project aims to expand fitness opportunities for all ages and abilities in a welcoming community space. Each piece of equipment includes clear instructions to ensure accessibility for beginners and fitness enthusiasts alike.

“This is more than just an outdoor gym,” said Denise Starling, Executive Director of Livable Buckhead. “It’s a place where people can come together, enjoy fresh air, and engage in fun wellness activities that improve their quality of life.”

Park Pride, a well-established Atlanta nonprofit with over 35 years of experience, played a key role in making the fitness tunnel a reality. The organization works with local communities to activate and improve parks and greenspaces across the city. Funding came from several major partners, including the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, The Home Depot Foundation, Georgia Power, and the City of Atlanta, through the Parks for All Campaign.

Livable Buckhead is a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the neighborhood’s long-term viability and prosperity through sustainable strategies that promote greenspace, energy efficiency, commute alternatives, arts and culture, and smart development.

Together, Livable Buckhead and Park Pride continue to foster healthier, more connected communities through innovative projects like the Old Ivy Fitness Tunnel.
