Livable Buckhead and MARTA Artbound Look for Artists to Create Mural on PATH400

Artwork to be showcased during October 20th event celebrating new section of multi-use trail

ATLANTA – September 20, 2019 – MARTA Artbound and Livable Buckhead are working together to bring artwork to the newest section of PATH400, which is slated to open this fall. The two organizations are seeking an Atlanta-based artist to paint a mural on a large, prominent wall on MARTA property along the multi-use trail. The artwork will be showcased during an October 20th event celebrating PATH400 — Party on the PATH — and will be a notable feature on the trail for years to come.

“We’re looking for a design that visually celebrates this community and creates a sense of place as people walk, bike or jog along PATH400,” said Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead. “This is a great opportunity for an artist to work in a high-profile location since the mural will be visible to people on the trail as well as people traveling on MARTA.”

Livable Buckhead and MARTA Artbound are looking for an artist to create an abstract artwork that celebrates Buckhead and represents the theme of the juxtaposition of the city and nature. The artwork should maintain a positive and happy tone, and may not represent any crude, offensive, or political content.

Artists who want to be considered for the PATH400 project must submit a concise portfolio of work, a link to the artist’s website or Instagram account, a brief statement explaining the vision for the artwork, and a proposed timeline for installation. The artwork must be complete prior to October 20. The call for artists is open until September 27 at https://www.abvatl.com/path400.

The selected artist will be paid $15,000 for the original design, installation and all materials. Financial support for the artwork is provided by MARTA Artbound. The call for artists is being hosted and the project produced through ABV Gallery and Agency.

Livable Buckhead’s Party on the PATH takes place on Sunday, October 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Miami Circle outside Eclipse di Luna. The event will offer the public a sneak peek at the new PATH400 segment as party goers participate in an interactive scavenger hunt, followed by dinner and live music. Proceeds support Livable Buckhead’s mission of creating community greenspace. Tickets range from $65 to $150 and can be purchased at http://livablebuckhead.org/pop/.
