Buckhead
COMPOSTS
BuckheadCOMPOSTS is Livable Buckhead’s newest initiative, turning food scraps into nutrient-rich soil instead of landfill waste. Thanks to an EPA grant, 15 multifamily communities will receive a full year of free composting services provided by our partner, CompostNow. With monthly challenges, prizes, and fun community events, the program makes it easy and rewarding for Buckhead residents to take action for the planet right from home.

How’s Your Building Stacking Up?
This chart shows compost collected per unit, making it a fair match no matter the size.
Reaching the top spot takes teamwork, a little know-how, and plenty of spirit. Every pound that lands in the compost bin instead of the landfill is a win for the planet and bragging rights for your building.
And because we like to keep things interesting, BuckheadCOMPOSTS is rolling out monthly challenges. Think photo contests, milestone celebrations, and chances to show off your building’s composting pride. Each month’s winner takes home prizes for every unit, so the whole building gets to celebrate together.
Composting isn’t just good for the environment, it’s a competition, a celebration, and a community vibe all rolled into one. So get in the game, rally your neighbors, and let’s see who takes the crown!

What’s the Deal with Composting
Think of composting as the ultimate glow up for your leftovers. Instead of sending banana peels, coffee grounds, and veggie scraps to a sad, lonely life in the landfill, composting gives them a second act as “black gold,” a soil booster plants can’t get enough of.
In a landfill, food waste breaks down without oxygen, which creates methane, and trust us, that’s one gas we don’t want more of. In composting, oxygen is part of the party, so scraps break down cleanly and actually do some good.
The end result? Rich, crumbly compost packed with nutrients that make gardens thrive, trees happier, and green spaces lusher. Basically, your trash becomes plant food. Composting doesn’t just reduce waste, it feeds the earth so it can keep feeding us.

Why BuckheadCOMPOST Matters
The BuckheadCOMPOSTS program is working to divert 500,000 pounds of organic waste from landfills—transforming food scraps into a valuable resource instead of wasted trash. Composting is one of Drawdown Georgia’s top climate solutions, helping cut carbon emissions and create healthier soil while directly supporting the state’s priorities.
Because metro Atlanta generates such a large share of Georgia’s food waste, Buckhead has a critical role to play. By making composting part of everyday life in our high-density community, we can reduce emissions, enrich local green spaces, and prove that urban neighborhoods can lead on large-scale climate solutions. With strong participation, we can put food scraps to their highest and best use—and inspire other cities to follow Buckhead’s lead.
