285/400 Construction Update

 In Employer, Mobility

The Transform 285/400 project team opened the new SR 400 southbound to I-285 eastbound flyover ramp early last week, replacing the existing loop ramp at the interchange.

Motorists will travel on the 80-foot-tall ramp until it merges with I-285 eastbound just before the Perimeter Center Parkway overpass. Signage will direct motorists through the new roadway and ramp configuration. The new flyover ramp is a major permanent alignment to open to traffic.

Motorists on SR 400 southbound to I-285 eastbound will merge to the farthest right lane on SR 400 southbound and merge onto the ramp just before the Hammond Drive overpass. (The ramp is colored green in the illustration below for reference).

Later in the year, crews will also open the SR 400 southbound to I-285 westbound ramp. When this ramp opens, motorists will merge onto the second to farthest right lane to access the SR 400 southbound to I-285 eastbound ramp.

Upcoming work activities:
Bridge 25 Opening
SR 400 southbound to I-285 westbound new alignment

This fall motorists will start driving on new bridges that make up the Transform 285/400 project. Crews will open to traffic the Ashford Dunwoody Road to I-285 westbound ramp. Motorists will access the Ashford Dunwoody ramp to I-285 westbound the ramp will merge from two lanes into one lane onto the new bridge. The new bridge alignment will merge into I-285 westbound.

The Transform 285/400 project team will also open the new SR 400 southbound to I-285 westbound ramp (the ramp is colored green in the illustration below for reference). Motorists will need to make a new lane decision earlier on SR 400 southbound to access the I-285 westbound by taking the farthest right lane just before Hammond Drive to access I-285 westbound. Motorists will merge with I-285 westbound just before Glenridge Drive. Motorists should pay close attention to the new roadway configurations. Signage will help motorists navigate the roadway and ramp configuration.

Keep up with the progress here.
