PARK(ing) Day Is A WRAP

 In Greenspace

After a pandemic hiatus in 2020 and a rain delay, PARK(ing) Day finally made its triumphant return to Buckhead for the 6th year, and we could not be more proud of how it turned out. It finally felt like a win to host an outdoor event, even if it was with physically-distanced parks and sanitation stations to keep our participants safe.

PARK(ing) day is held globally as a concerted effort to say, “What would you do with this space if it weren’t reserved for a car?” This year, we had SPIN scooter rides rolling past 100+ borrowed trees, an animal farm, bee hives, a yard-sign recycled park, collaborative art creation, a remote control car race, and even a Miami Vice themed beach. While the creativity ran the gamut, our team at Livable Buckhead was grateful for the support from our partners in creating such a unique experience for Atlanta!

Let’s be honest, this year has been weird but it hasn’t stopped our mission to provide sustainability-focused programming for the Buckhead community. This year’s event, and all of our programming, is only possible through our  sponsors and partners that we’ve cultivated within the Atlanta community. In 2021, we hosted drive-in movies, walk challenges, bike classes, run clubs, volunteer events, community art installations, and our upcoming 5K & Hot Chocolate Crawl.

Not only was PARK(ing) Day filled with fun activations, our partners showcased sustainability through solar panels, an eco-sneaker collection, mobility options from our friends at MARTA and Georgia Commute Options and much more. Livable Buckhead’s mission for sustainability creeps into our events through our efforts to reach zero waste and lead by example in hosting sustainability-minded programming in all that we do.

Participating businesses and organizations put their creativity on display, competing for awards in a variety of categories.

  • People’s Choice: Beck Group –Beck Group was at the top of their game by constructing a sustainable and creative park which featured games for guests including checkers and Connect 4 under a canopy of repurposed campaign signs.
  • Meanest Greenest: Spin – Visitors were invited to take a ride on the green side at Spin’s transportation safety hub where organizers hosted demonstrations on scooter and bike safety among its custom-designed furniture.
  • Go Play!: Urban Enterprises – Goats, bunnies and pigs, oh my! Guests couldn’t get enough of Urban Enterprises’ temporary petting zoo with chickens, bunnies, goats and more.

In 2022 we will be working to bring even more community programming through free yoga, more volunteer projects, a a return of our Big PATH, Tiny Parks, Party on the PATH, and more programming supporting greenspace, mobility, health & wellness and art. We would love for you to consider becoming a sponsor in 2022.

Lastly, a big giant thank you to all our 2021 sponsors including Audi Atlanta, Simon Properties/Lenox Square, The Beck Group, Legacy Parking, Spin Scooters, Urban Enterprises, Tower Wine & Spirits. You bring so much to Buckhead – THANK YOU!
