PARK(ing) Day Returns – Team Building and the Pandemic

 In Community, Employer

Team building is one of those business topics that will evoke a few eye rolls. The first thing that comes to mind for many are those cringeworthy activities that force people together into some sort of awkward scenario, with all the participants hating the process and wishing it would end.

The thing is – that’s not entirely fair. The Small Group Research journal paper “Does Team Building Work?” analyzed data from 103 studies conducted between 1950 and 2007. This cumulative research provides the strongest scientific evidence to date that team building can have measurable, positive effects on team performance. It just needs to be conducted in an interesting and engaging manner.

And after a year and a half of COVID-19, it looks like some semblance of normalcy is returning to offices around the world. With that return and patchwork flexible remote work, we are beginning to recognize the need to reconnect outside of a virtual world and renew connection and foster creativity within our teams.

That isn’t an easy task to accomplish, and you may not be sure how to create or find that sort of environment. Well, wouldn’t you know it – we’ve got the perfect opportunity just for you.

Two words – PARK(ing) Day.

Our 2021 PARK(ing) Day event returns to the front of Lenox Square on Friday, September 17th. Between 40 and 50 organizations transform parking spaces, usually reserved for cars, into temporary public parks or displays of art or community. It’s not only a fun way to engage your employees to work together but also a creative opportunity to showcase your company in a safe outdoor environment for the Atlanta community. Anyone and everyone is able to sign up for PARK(ing) Day. We’ve had banks, architects, non-profits, universities, co-working spaces and tech companies all utilize PARK(ing) Day.

Building a 16×8 ft park can be daunting. So, let’s start with a FREE craft cocktail at ASW Distillery Thursday (8/19) 5-6:30 for our Build and Booze: PARK(ing) Day Brainstorm Session. You and your team will work together to design and plan a temporary parklet with the help of some seasoned PARK(ing) Day veterans. We’re even happy to host a session in your office (or zoom!).

We’re still in uncharted territory for how we work and how we work together, which is without a doubt a challenge. However, we do know team building creates trust, mitigates conflict, encourages communication, and increases collaboration. Effective team building means more engaged and connected employees, which is good for company culture and boosting the bottom line. Who wouldn’t want all that? So, join us for PARK(ing) Day and our Build and Booze event to learn more about how you and your team can build a park that not only represent YOU (hello unique marketing!) and your company but it’s an opportunity for your employees to come together, think creatively and support a cause we can all get behind, MORE parks.

Interested in learning more? Signup as an official park HERE or join us on August 19th at our Build and Booze Event at ASW. We kindly ask that you shoot me an email our way if you plan to attend or if you have questions.
