Buckhead Employers Ready Their Big Game Plans

Livable Buckhead encourages teleworking, transit use to minimize traffic impact

ATLANTA – January 29, 2018 – Even though Super Bowl LIII will take place miles from Buckhead, locals are bracing for the impact of tens of thousands of visitors to the area. Livable Buckhead, a nonprofit organization that assists employers with commute options programs, has been helping Buckhead businesses prepare to keep their employees out of traffic during the football festivities. Employers are stepping up in ways large and small, encouraging their employees to take transit or work from home on the days immediately before and after the big game.

“We have two specific recommendations for Buckhead businesses,” said Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead. “Use transit as much as possible now through Wednesday. Transit is likely to become more crowded toward the weekend, so our second recommendation is to allow as many employees as possible to work from home on Thursday, Friday and the Monday following the game. That Monday piece is important – roads and transit are likely to be packed with people heading out of town, so it could be the most problematic day of all.”

One company that is following Livable Buckhead’s recommendations is BrightWave – a Buckhead-based email and eCRM company that has worked with Livable Buckhead to create a thriving telework program. BrightWave plans to have its entire office telework from Thursday, Jan. 31 through Monday Feb. 4.

WSP, a global professional services firm with offices in Buckhead, is holding a commute challenge this week to see which employee can take the least trips by single-occupant vehicle. The company is also participating in Livable Buckhead’s Try Transit promotion that gives a free 10-trip MARTA pass to first-time riders.

While commute options programs are best implemented on a year-round basis, Livable Buckhead has been sharing the Georgia Commute Options telework quick start guide that includes useful resources for employers that want to take action this week. A teleworking task list, checklist and tips for success can provide the framework for a successful short-term telework arrangement.
