Livable Buckhead: The 2020 Experience
In 2019, Livable Buckhead hosted 17 events aiming to improve our community. With participation from over 350 volunteers, we were able to clean streams and remove invasive species among other activities to beautify our city.
In 2020, we plan to continue these projects while adding an exciting array of new opportunities! We hope to promote community involvement, encourage environmental stewardship, and build teamwork while making an immediate and tangible impact through a number of projects and events this year.
Below is some exciting information about the importance of this year’s events!
New events:
PATH400 Wetlands: This wetland, between HWY 400 and our path is home to a variety of local wildlife including beavers! Wetlands are important in water management and filtration as they act like a sponge – holding excess water and purifying surface water.
Path400 Cleaning: The PATH400 project is expanding connectivity in Buckhead – the multiuse trail will start to support heavy pedestrian use as the year gets warmer! Connectivity improves healthy and happiness in the community while reducing vehicular traffic.
MWC Place-making: By adding picnic tables and an outdoor game center to this park we are encouraging outdoor recreation that can lower blood pressure, improve memory and have a variety of other positive health impacts while instilling an appreciation for the natural world.
Mural Painting: Painting a bright mural on the Old Ivy Underpass will beautify the path and encourage an appreciation for public art and creative expression.
Holidays in Buckhead: Spreading cheer with your fellow Buckhead community members through engaging events such as Path400 decorating and group caroling is sure to brighten everyone’s holidays.
Annual Events:
Creek Cleanings: Clean creeks reduce pollution that would otherwise flow downstream – destroying multiple ecosystems along the way. The creeks at Old Ivy, Blue Heron, and Little Nancy help trap nutrients, recharge groundwater, and reduce flooding in and around Buckhead.
Buckhead 5k: Physical exercise has a variety of positive health effects. You can cheer on your friends, co-workers and community in celebration of the completion of our walk challenge.
PARKing Day: Wouldn’t the world be a more beautiful place if we had natural greenspace instead of parking spaces? See how different business in Buckhead would change a parking spot into a park if they could.
Biketober Bike in Movie: Biking is one of the fastest, and arguably most fun single-rider alternative modes of transportation! Our Biketober challenge incentivizes biking to a Halloween themed outdoor movie.
Party on the Path: Celebrate Buckhead’s multi-use trail by attending or volunteering for an evening of delicious food, lively music, and beautiful PATH400 views.
Holiday Decorating: Put a smile on the faces of all the people who use and pass PATH400 during one of the most wonderful, and stressful, times of the year.
