It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year… for Traffic Tie-Ups and Vehicle Break-Ins
Make the holiday season merry by carpooling and remembering to “Take, Hide, Lock”
ATLANTA – Dec. 6, 2019 – December is a time of year rich with holiday traditions. Unfortunately, gridlock traffic and vehicle break-ins are as much a part of the holiday season as candy canes and Santa Claus. Livable Buckhead, a nonprofit with a mission to make the community the kind of place where people want to live and businesses want to operate, has some helpful hints for commuters looking to keep the season merry and bright.
December is a good month to try a new commute, especially for people who work in popular shopping districts like Buckhead. When roads are packed with people trying to make their way to the mall, heading home via MARTA or the passenger seat of a carpool partner’s car is a much better option. If a traffic-free commute isn’t enough of an incentive, Livable Buckhead and Georgia Commute Options will pay commuters up to $150 to make the switch. Livable Buckhead also has an extra incentive for carpoolers during the month of December – a $50 gas card.
This month is also a prime season for thieves who target vehicles where holiday purchases and other valuable items have been stashed. Livable
Buckhead offers a simple, three-part solution to head off these grinches: take valuables with you, hide valuables you can’t take before you arrive at your destination, and always lock your vehicle.
Livable Buckhead has hired a team of “elves” to take its message to office buildings across Buckhead this holiday season. Between now and December 18th, street teams from Urban Enterprises will pop up in office building lobbies and parking decks to give away Livable Buckhead merchandise and to share information about carpooling and preventing vehicle break-ins.
“It’s a busy time of year for everyone, and we want to do whatever we can to make things a little easier,” said Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead. “We hope people will take just a few minutes to think about some relatively small changes they can make to keep their property safe and to stay out of traffic.”
