Fall Events Heat Up And Need Volunteers

 In Community

As Summer runs into Fall, Livable Buckhead is getting ready for events to start heating up…and we need your help. Volunteering is important to the community. It enriches our society, brings us together as a community, and helps organizations like Livable Buckhead bring engaging events to the community.

Here are some events we need help with:

Livable Buckhead PARK(ing) Day

Time/Date: 9.27.2019 / 10am – 2pm

About the Event: On Friday, September 27th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Livable Buckhead, a non-profit in Sustainability will work with local businesses, non-profits and schools will transform 50 parking spaces in the Lenox Square parking lot along Peachtree Road into mini-parks as part of PARK(ing) Day.

What is PARK(ing) Day? PARK(ing) Day is a worldwide event where citizens, artists, and activists collaborate to temporarily transform parking spaces usually reserved for cars into temporary public parks or displays of art or community.

Buckhead has a great opportunity to demonstrate the lack of public park space in the community and emphasize the importance of parks. Livable Buckhead will use PARK(ing) Day to help call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to provide a fun opportunity for positive community interaction in an unlikely place: the Lenox Square parking lot!

What will YOU do as a volunteer? You will arrive at the front of Lenox Square (mall) and sign in at the registration table at 9AM in front of Da Vinci’s Donuts. You will then be debriefed on Livable Buckhead and the flow of the event.

    1. Greeting attendees and sharing info about Livable Buckhead and what PARK(ing) Day is and how to vote for your favorite park
    2. Directing our park participants to their designated PARK(ing) Day space
    3. Ensuring all teams recieve their t-shirts and waivers
    4. Assisting with basic cleanup throughout the event (if needed with the food trucks)
    5. Exploring the parks and enjoying lunch!
    6. Cleanup – Park breakdown will begin at 2:00. All of our parks will be in charge of breaking down their own spaces but the volunteers and staff will focus on breaking down picnic tables and ensuring we are good guests of Lenox Square.

All volunteers will be given an event t-shirt for assisting in the event as well!
