***Guest blog by Tony Peters, Buckhead CID – Director of Capital Projects & Programs***
The Buckhead CID is thrilled to announce it will begin construction on three infrastructure projects throughout the community in 2020, kicking off its “year of construction!”
ADA Sidewalk Improvements – The ADA sidewalk improvement project will repair and replace approximately 4.5 miles of sidewalks, while adding ADA features such as handicap accessible ramps on several roads within the CID’s boundaries. Construction on the first phase, located on Maple Drive, began in January and was recently completed. The next phase is scheduled to resume on Pharr Road in March. The ADA project is funded by BCID tax dollars and a contribution from the Renew Atlanta Infrastructure Bond and the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Transportation (TSPLOST) program. The CID has contracted SD&C, Inc. to carry out the construction and the improvements along Maple Drive, Pharr Road, Piedmont Road and Lenox Road is complete. Improvements along Peachtree Road will be complete in August 2020.
West Village Streetscapes – The West Village Streetscapes project will replace and repair sidewalks and roadways in Buckhead’s West Village while adding streetscape improvements to increase curb appeal and walkability around the area. At the same time, the City and GDOT will install new stormwater infrastructure along Roswell and East Andrews roads. The project is funded by BCID with stormwater support from the City of Atlanta and GDOT, and Astra Group, Inc. has been contracted to complete construction. The West Village Streetscapes project commenced in March of 2020 and will be substantially complete by end of this year.
Peachtree Road Complete Street Phase Three – The Peachtree Road Complete Street Phase Three is the final step in fulfilling the Peachtree Road Scoping Study and will provide roadway, pedestrian and streetscape improvements on Peachtree Road from Maple Drive to Shadowlawn Avenue. Construction is set to commence in Fall of 2020 and last for 15 months. The project is funded by BCID, GDOT, the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank and the Federal Highway Administration.
Paving Projects conducted by City of Atlanta and Georgia DOT in BCID boundaries – City of Atlanta has finished paving operations of Peachtree Road from Pharr Road to Club Drive. Permanent Striping will be placed by middle to end of September 2020. The Georgia DOT has commenced paving operations of GA 400 from I-85 to Glenridge Drive. This work is being conducted by their contractor, C.W. Matthews, during the daily hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Use caution when traveling through this part of GA 400 and expect lane closures. This paving should be complete by end of September, early October 2020.
