The Dirt on PATH400

 In Greenspace, PATH400

Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead, gives us the dirt on PATH400 progress.

Wow – the holidays are over, and we’re already halfway through January. How did that happen? Seriously, time is moving faster than a squirrel on a caffeine binge.

As I write this, I’m cozy by the fire, admiring the snowy landscape outside—but what I’d rather be doing is sledding down those awesome new sections of PATH400 like a wild thing. Lucky for us, Livable Buckhead’s own Helen braved the cold and snapped some gorgeous snow-covered PATH400 shots for your viewing pleasure. (Because, honestly, what’s a good update without some eye candy?)

Speaking of wild things… Have you checked out our latest PATH400 Wild Things campaign? If not, you’re missing out big time. Over the next few months, you’ll get to:

🦁 Vote on which animals you want to see on the PATH400 Animal Safari (voting ends January 31st!)
🦒 Flex your artistic muscles by creating their designs, and
🐅 Choose their ridiculously cool names.

Oh, and you’ll even have a chance to claim a piece of your favorite animal—forever linking your name (or your kid’s name, or your dog’s name… we’re not picky) to this wild adventure. Now, go vote before it’s too late!

But wait, there’s more! PATH400 is buzzing with activity. Here’s the latest:

The “exit ramp” down to Mountain Way Common is mostly poured, and we’ll be finishing the connection to North Ivy soon. Of course, this assumes Mother Nature decides to play nice and warm things up a bit—because, fun fact, concrete doesn’t pour itself when it’s too cold. Thanks, science.

Garden 684

Across the street, we’re teaming up with our awesome partners at OldCastle to bring you some incredible updates:

A shiny new gateway and internal trail that ties directly into PATH400.
A tactical urbanism installation (translation: artsy crosswalks) that’ll brighten your day and probably your Instagram feed.

We’re even planning a call-to-artists later this year—so, hey, MWC Octopus Artist, call us!

Bridge Handrails

Handrails are slowly but surely going in, with a fresh shipment arriving this week. And yes, I’m so glad we decided to raise them—a decision I’ll be patting myself on the back for every time I cross it.

Want to be among the first OFFICIAL (I’m looking at you John A.) visitors to walk this beauty as part of an exclusive VIP tour? Easy! Become a PATH400 donor at $100 or more, and you’re in.

Tree Fairy Alert

Get ready for some magic — 437 new trees will soon appear along PATH400! We’ve sorted out the paperwork and are charging ahead while planting season is still here. Keep an eye out for these leafy additions in the coming weeks.

Railings

In addition to the bridge, there are a bunch of regular railings that have to go in. These guys are hand-fabricated and will be the next ones going up after the bridge handrails are done.

DAVID MOSS GEEK MOMENT

A major point of discussion has been whether to install the railing posts plumb or with the angle of the slope… details matter! (Plum is the right answer, by the way.)

Upcoming Sections

Loridans to Sandy Springs

We’re dancing the bureaucratic tango with the City and GDOT to get the construction contract signed and a Notice to Proceed (NTP). Fingers crossed for a March 1st start, just in time to avoid those pesky bats. The stars – and wildlife calendars – are aligning.

Sandy Springs

Our partners in Sandy Springs are also crushing it! They just secured a major chunk of funding for their PATH400 sections and are gearing up to start construction around the same time we kick off our final major segment. High fives all around! 👏
