Livable Buckhead is supporting our local community by providing updates from The City of Atlanta on approved legislation that will have an impact in both Buckhead and surrounding neighborhoods in Atlanta. From transportation related initiatives to new transit projects that will provide benefits to residents and commuters, Livable Buckhead is committed to keeping you up to date with the latest information.

City of Atlanta council updates include:

  • Ordinance was adopted to amend 2023 General Government Capital Outlay Fund Budget to allocate funds from the impact fees reserve to fund transportation projects such as signals, sidewalks, communication corridors, complete streets, and intersection improvements.
  • MARTA is now open to sales-tax program audit demanded by Atlanta City Council
  • Lenox Marketplace Revitalization Project is set to begin soon to create a more walkable and attractive commercial district. Selig enterprises has renamed Lenox Marketplace to “The Block at Phipps” and will be providing a suite of upgrades to the retail destination set to be delivered by the end of 2023.
  • Atlanta City Council approves new SPI-25 Zoning rules to restrict new development in Tuxedo Park capping a multi-decade effort to preserve the area’s park-like character.
  • Ordinance was adopted authorizing a $2.8 million donation to Park Pride to support district-specific greenspace improvements and park upgrades in communities across Atlanta.
  • Inside City Hall: Atlanta avoids Buckhead split with the measure failing by a 33-23 vote.
  • Less is less with More MARTA Projects. MARTA has pared down there list of projects from 17 initially proposed in 2018 to 9 projects that are expected to be completed by 2028. 1 project is specific to rail which is the extension of the Atlanta Streetcar connecting to the Atlanta Beltline and Ponce City Market. The Campbellton Road and Clifton Corridor projects have been scaled down to bus rapid transit (BRT) due to costs and expediency.
  • Invest Atlanta will be pursuing to secure federal funding to establish a green bank that would help finance clean energy projects.
  • MARTA proposals in General Assembly include bigger no-bid contracts and bus-lane traffic cameras. MARTA is the subject of proposals at the Georgia General Assembly that involve questions of transparency and effectiveness of future transit. One bill up for a House vote this week would expand no-bid contracting for MARTA and legislation is on hold for a year for traffic cameras that are considered key for bus rapid transit.
