Howard W. Grant, Ph.D. is the vice president of Governmental & External Affairs for the Atlanta Housing Authority responsible for leading stakeholder engagement and governmental and external affairs. Previously the Executive Director of the Atlanta Board of Education, he managed the strategic planning for the Board, who has the governance and oversight of the Atlanta Public School System. He supported the operations and administration of the Board by interfacing with the Superintendent, the Executive Team, staff, and external partners. Dr. Grant is a scholar-practitioner of urban policy, environmental justice, and board governance. As a faculty member at Atlanta Metropolitan College he taught American government and comparative politics. He has taught at Clark Atlanta University where he led the urban politics and public policy concentrations. At the Atlanta Regional Commission, he developed civic and environmental justice strategies that focused on intergovernmental cooperation and equity in metro Atlanta planning processes.
Dr. Grant currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority (Chairman), and the Urban League of Metropolitan Atlanta. Dr. Grant is also a member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc., where he sat on the board for two consecutive terms, and currently serves as the Chair of Programs.
He is a fellow of the Charles Kettering Foundation, the Diversity Leadership Academy of Atlanta, and member of Leadership Atlanta – Class of 2006.
