PATH400: Where Wild Things Come To Life

In Arts and Culture, Greenspace, Health and Wellness, PATH400, Public Art

Back when PATH400 was just a crazy idea, I would haul plans home at night, dissecting every boring technical detail. My son, Will—five at the time—was far more visionary, lobbying hard for a playground and a wild animal petting zoo that was some combination of the Pine Mountain Safari and Where the Wild Things Are, one of his favorite books. Will got it. Even as a kid, he knew PATH400 was about more than just trails—it was about building community.

Fast-forward a few years (Will’s off at college now), and PATH400 isn’t just an idea—it’s Buckhead’s crown jewel. It connects neighborhoods, people, and even some parts of the city we don’t talk about. But guess what? No petting zoo… until now.

Will’s zoo might’ve been a pipe dream, but with your help, we’re bringing in a whole new kind of wild to PATH400. Picture walking across the new Mountain Way Common bridge next summer and spotting a vibrant giraffe or lion below—not real ones, of course, but rather playful sculptures from Prescott Studio that will add a splash of whimsy, making our greenspaces even more magical.

To make Will’s dream come true, we need your help deciding which of these wild beasts will make Atlanta home. Vote today on which ones are your favorites and be on the lookout for more opportunities to help us customize and name them!

Just like greenspace has well-known physical and mental health benefits, public art isn’t just about looking pretty—it creates safer, healthier, and more connected communities. PATH400 has always embraced it, from student-designed shadow panels to walls painted by local artists. And now, we’re taking it up a notch.

Let your spirit run wild at PATH400, where Denise’s Beasts will spark wonder and joy. Wander through a whimsical world where art meets nature. Bring your curiosity, share a laugh, and snap a photo—because here, every visit is an adventure filled with smiles and surprises!

For everyone who never got that pony they asked for, now you can have a giraffe (or a lion or tiger!) Vote today and pitch in by making a gift before December 31st to make PATH400 the kind of place where people come for the trails—and stay for the art? Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date on the animals that will call PATH400 home and to see how Livable Buckhead keeps our community awesome.

Because if it’s making life in Buckhead better—parks, art, parties, whatever—Livable Buckhead’s behind it, and your gift makes it happen.

P.S. If you need to walk off all those holiday treats, head out to PATH400! No wild animals out there yet, but you’ll see plenty of neighbors.
