Jane Moss – Recognizing Philanthropy: Raising the Rails on PATH400
Livable Buckhead has set in motion a fundraiser making our PATH400 even more secure and robust. PATH400 is a valuable gem connecting people in a sustainable innovative way. Raising the Rails campaign is an opportunity for residents and businesses to contribute to providing maximum safety for anyone using the raised trail over Mountain Way Common. Livable Buckhead is invested in community well-being, contributing $50,000, half of the amount needed once the other half has been donated. The Raising the Rails Series will be recognizing and celebrating philanthropic minded individuals committed to the betterment and safety of our neighborhoods.
Advocating for her community, Jane Moss has been dedicated to transforming neglected areas in her neighborhood into flourishing green havens. Jane helped to organize several clean-ups when Mountain Common Way (MWC) was in its infancy. As a vested member of the community, she is a Friend of Mountain Way Common. Often, Jane would attend Livable Buckhead’s meetings helping to update the board on the parks’ progress. Watching the abandoned area’s metamorphosis into an amazing neighborhood space, she is excited that the construction of PATH400 over the area is happening. Knowing the trail overpass, parallel to PATH400, is dauntingly high, Jane is determined to help address the safety issues.
Jane’s previous collaborations with Livable Buckhead created a culture of change for the community. Moving toward a more resilient future with the addition of trail-based greenway systems helps to empower local collectives with green initiatives. Attending a fund-raising event in January where Denise Starling of Livable Buckhead presented Raising the Rails Campaign, Jane committed to donating and connecting with neighbors addressing the efforts to raise funds for the 54 ft wire mesh railings. Jane’s philanthropic endeavors are helping to sow the seeds of change in neighborhoods. When asked why she chooses to collaborate with Livable Buckhead, she stated, “I enjoy being involved with the community, and at Livable Buckhead, the team of change-makers is impressive. Their vision for a greener, more efficient community where walkability and environmental concerns are admirable, makes me want to help with my time and donations.”
Connecting trails where we can walk and bike within our infrastructure improves the health of people and places. Challenging ourselves to reimagine our public spaces will create connections for positive interactions. Promoting awareness of current and future PATH 400 connections, such as North Buckhead to both Sarah Smith Elementary campuses, Buckhead’s retail areas, Midtown, the Beltline, and Sandy Springs, Jane’s main message is one of human connection. Access to near and distant trails allows people to explore their community and other neighboring communities. Building a sustainable trail system that will last for hundreds of years requires addressing pedestrian safety. Preventing walking condition problems before they occur is key to longevity. Jane wants to make our PATH400 safe for everyone to connect.
“I would love to see children walking safely to school on PATH400. Another dream I have had for a long time is folks being able to cycle on the path with their kids for ice cream on a warm summer day.” ~ Jane Moss
