Gables Residential and Homrich Berg Set the Standard for Sustainability, Mobility Programs
Livable Buckhead to honor companies at Feb. 6 Buckhead Business Association Luncheon
ATLANTA – February 4, 2020 – At this week’s Buckhead Business Association annual luncheon, Livable Buckhead will honor two companies for their outstanding contributions to sustainability and mobility in 2019. Gables Residential has been selected for the Triple Bottom Line Award for its solar energy program at the Ashley Gables Buckhead, and Homrich Berg has been named the Mobility Champion for its commute options program that tripled the percentage of its employees who use a commute alternative.
“These two companies have made significant investments in sustainability and mobility that are having tangible, positive effects in the lives of their residents and employees,” said Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead. “We are thrilled to honor them for their achievements, and we hope to see more companies follow in their footsteps.”
The Triple Bottom Line award recognizes a Buckhead company or organization that has demonstrated success in the development and implementation of programs, projects, or policies that drive sustainability forward in the community. Gables Residential, known for its luxury apartment complexes, has also become a leader in sustainable development and management of its residential buildings. Gables addresses energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor air quality, recycling, renewable material product selection, and other green building focus areas in its developments. The Ashley Gables Buckhead upped its sustainability efforts by installing solar panels and an energy storage battery system on its property. The solar array powers the rooftop Skyline Terrace and dog park at the residential complex. Supported by Tesla Powerwall 2 batteries for energy storage, the system stores and provides the electricity needed to continue to power these amenities through the night. When the system produces more energy than what’s needed or can be stored, it is distributed to electrify other common areas in the building. The clean energy produced by the solar PV systems is estimated to save 29.9 metric tons of CO2 annually – the equivalent of CO2 emissions from 69.3 barrels of oil consumed or the greenhouse gas emissions from 6.4 passenger vehicles driven for a full year.
The Buckhead Mobility Champion award recognizes an employer that has demonstrated success in the development and implementation of a commute alternative program that aims to mitigate traffic congestion, reduce auto emissions and improve quality of life for their employees. Homrich Berg, a national independent wealth management firm, maximized the opportunities presented by its 2018 move to new offices in Three Alliance Center, an office tower located immediately off GA 400 and within a short walk of the Buckhead MARTA station. The Homrich Berg commuter benefits package provides a $100 monthly stipend to employees who take clean commutes as well as reimbursement for five Uber/Lyft rides and five parking passes per month. The program also incentivizes people who regularly drive to work by reimbursing them for occasionally using alternative transportation.
