Weekend Warrior: Friends of Lost Corner
August 30, 2020
Weekends are for greenspace! We encourage our participants to visit a local park, trail or greenspace and just get outside over the the weekend. There’s no requirement on the park that you visit. Each week participants will have an opportunity to earn 75 points for visiting a new local park or trail during the challenge.
Interested in learning about new parks to explore? Livable Buckhead has joined forces with REI and 9 other organizations to encourage Metro Atlanta residents to get outside and visit a local park by participating in a separate challenge called Hikes For Health.
This weekend check out Friends of Lost Corner. Friends of Lost Corner is a non-profit group created in conjunction with the City of Sandy Springs to help make this beautiful 24 acre preserve a usable recreation area for residents to enjoy. Located in the heart of Sandy Springs, at 7300 Brandon Mill Rd, Lost Corner has a unique history as a working farm, dating back to the settlement of the area in the mid 1800s and the Civil War.
There is almost a mile of walking trails through Lost Corner Preserve. Cross over beautiful Falling Branches Creek. You be able to see foxes, turtles, wild turkeys, raccoons, coyotes, snakes, opossums, birds of prey (red tailed and cooper’s hawks), many species of birds, rabbits, a heard of 5 or more deer, White Oaks (how can you miss them!!), black walnut, pecan, river birch, dogwood, beech, loblolly pines, southern magnolias, holly, sweetgum, hemlock, tulip poplar, quince, Cherokee rose, confederate rose, trillium, bloodroot, hearts-a-busting, lady slippers, trout lilies, and balm flower.
