Weekend Warrior: Blue Heron Nature Preserve
September 5, 2020
Weekends are for greenspace! We encourage our participants to visit a local park, trail or greenspace and just get outside over the the weekend. There’s no requirement on the park that you visit. Each week participants will have an opportunity to earn 75 points for visiting a new local park or trail during the challenge.
Interested in learning about new parks to explore? Livable Buckhead has joined forces with REI and 9 other organizations to encourage Metro Atlanta residents to get outside and visit a local park by participating in a separate challenge called Hikes For Health.
This weekend check out Blue Heron Nature Preserve. Blue Heron is a 30-acre Nature Preserve in the urban environment of Atlanta. Home to the 3-mile Blueway Trail. The Preserve was founded in 2000, sparked by an efforts of a local school teacher and the North Buckhead Civic Association to preserve seven acres of floodplain along Nancy Creek, adjacent to new development on Rickenbacker Drive at Roswell Road. As a community-based effort, the Preserve will continue to grow and provide a place of natural beauty for the local environment.
The Preserve grounds are open every day, free to the public from dawn to dusk. The administrative building is closed to the general public except during special events, classes, etc. The art gallery is open by appointment, please call the office to schedule a visit, 404-345-1008. Dogs are welcome, but they must be leashed at all times and their poop scooped.
