Countdown To Game Day

 In Employer, Mobility

The countdown to Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta is already well underway. While the game will be downtown, there will be an estimated 150,000 out of town visitors arriving, as well as more than 1 million folks attending 10 days of events across the city, including Buckhead. And while they are partying, for the rest of us work goes on. Are you prepared for the impact? Here are some things for you to keep in mind.

MARTA

With a million people between you and your commute, MARTA is going to be one of the best choices. MARTA’s Super Bowl service:

Tuesday, Jan. 29 – Friday, Feb. 1

  • Bus service will operate on a regular schedule
  • Rail service will start early at 4 a.m.

Friday, Feb. 1 at 4 a.m. – Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 2am

  • Rail service will run continuously, 24 hours a day
  • Bus service on routes 15, 39, 83, and 96 will run continuously, 24 hours a day

Parking: Please keep in mind that MARTA parking is first-come, first-served at the following locations: Medical Center, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, North Springs, Lindbergh Center, Lenox, Brookhaven/Oglethorpe, Chamblee, Doraville, West End, Oakland City, Lakewood/ Ft. McPherson, East Point, and College Park Stations.

Due to the heavy volume of visitors to events, these lots may fill up faster than normal. Plan to arrive earlier than usual, use Lyft or Uber, or plan to skip the commute altogether by teleworking.

Telework:

The best commute is one that only involves a click. You don’t need a crystal ball to picture what the commute will look like with a million extra folks between your employees and the office. So if your company has a telework program, help everyone by using it. We’ll even sing your praises if you pledge to promote telework during this time.

If you don’t already have a telework program in place, we can help you with our quick start guide, as well as free professional telework consultation to help get right from the beginning.

The Best of Both Worlds:

Because transit and telework are the two most used alternative modes in Buckhead, Livable Buckhead recommends following the below commute schedule to ease stress and congestion during this major event:
Transit: Monday, January 28 – Wednesday, January 30
Telework: Thursday, January 31 – Monday, February 4

Road Closures:

There will be no road closures in Buckhead, but the Buckhead Community Improvement District (BCID) traffic officer program will be suspended from Monday, January 28th – Monday, February 4th. The BCID hires off-duty officers to direct commuters, especially out of parking garages during the 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. rush hour. Those officers will be on Super Bowl security duty, being pulled into service as part of the event’s massive security plan.
