Live in Buckhead
Overview
Originally conceived as a trading post at the intersection of two major Native American trading routes, Buckhead not only retained its importance as a major hub of commerce but has also grown in ways few ever imagined was possible. Brought into the City of Atlanta in 1952, Buckhead today includes a 20 square mile area that is a collection of single family homes surrounding a major business core comprised of commercial office, dining, hospitality and shopping. Buckhead is the second largest “downtown” and were it a city, would be the 12th largest in the state of Georgia.

Mobility
Accessibility is vital to the prosperity and vibrancy of any community, and Buckhead has many options from which to choose. Buckhead sits just north of Midtown Atlanta, and is served on the east by I75, on the west by I85 and through the heart, by GA400. Reaching well south of Downtown, the main north-south street of Buckhead is Peachtree Road. Changing names to Peachtree Street south of Buckhead, this name change is significant in that it defines a border between Buckhead and Midtown. The main east-west street is Paces Ferry Road, named for a former ferry that used to cross the Chattahoochee River. In addition to Peachtree and West Paces Ferry Roads, other arterial roads include Piedmont Road, Roswell Road, and Northside Parkway.
Traffic in Atlanta can be a challenge and luckily Buckhead is served by three MARTA rail stations, the southernmost being Lindbergh Center. Just north of there, the Red and Gold lines split, with the Gold Line’s Lenox station at the southwest corner of the Lenox Square parking lot, and the Red Line’s Buckhead station on the west side of the malls where Peachtree crosses GA400. In addition to ridesharing companies Uber and Lyft, Buckhead also offers residents a variety of last-mile connectivity options, such as Relay Bike Share, which expanded into Buckhead in 2017.
For those looking for an added health component, Buckhead offers several pedestrians and cycling mobility options. These include on-going complete street improvements, as well as off-street networks of trails. These include:
- PATH400
- North Beltline Trail (Under construction)
- Chastain Park Trail
- Mountain River Trail
- Paces Ferry Trail
