Bees On Their Way To Mountain Way Common

This past Saturday Buckhead Rotarians joined Livable Buckhead and Doc’s Healing Hives to tackle the second phase of our bee hive project and show off some of their handiness. We had a PERFECT day for the event – sunny and mid 50’s – it was even too warm for long sleeve shirts during January.

Thanks to the hard work of Ann Hardy, Bill Barney, Mark Keramidas and Michelle Middlebrooks from Buckhead Rotary, Tim Doherty from Doc’s, and Anna Sharp, Michelle Simard and Ben Lowenthal from Livable Buckhead and my husband Michael and son Will, we established the base for pollinator garden that will help feed our hives once they get in place. This was no small task – especially since our tiller and auger both gave up on us right in the middle of the day.  We broke up the ground, removed the grass (weeds actually), and mixed in compost and top soil to provide the perfect planting area. In addition to this, we built and painted a picket fence around the whole thing to secure our hives. Yep- we got all of this done in one afternoon.
