APD Zone 2 Fangirl Report – Fugitives

 In Executive Director, Safety, Security

Move over Dog the Bounty Hunter… APD is on the job. Twenty-eight men and women are in the unit that investigates and serves warrants. And it appears that being a total beefcake is part of the requirement here – right down to the picture of Cartman (South Park fans) on their own presentation 😊. I mean you do occasionally have to break down a door, so I guess size does matter!

Beefcake training is focused in three main areas including:

  • tactical
  • firearms
  • investigative skills

Information is king in this division, and they LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how much we put our lives on display on social media! They also love how addicted we are to our phones and always have them with us. It isn’t just us parents who have figured out that phones are a great way to keep tabs on our kids… I’ll leave it at that!

If you excel at stalking your friends or exes or being the neighborhood blind-bender then you might be a natural for this gig!  The Crime Stoppers tipline is very helpful for these folks… people love to snitch and get rewarded for it!

This unit works a lot with the feds, particularly when it comes to technology. The feds apparently have much cooler toys that help make the work easier (and make the local guys totally jealous)!

A few takeaways:

  • They can do “no knock warrants” but they are difficult to get and so used very rarely.
  • They like to serve warrants when you are not on your guard – i.e., ASLEEP.
  • They do care about minimizing impacts to families and kids when they execute warrants.

BIG OBSERVATION/AH HA MOMENT:

This may have been evident to you, but it just dawned on me that the number of officers are assigned to your Zone isn’t the only thing that matters when it comes to public safety.  APD has a many citywide units and resources that they are constantly drawing from to address the special needs for each area.
