DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, September 27th\, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.\, 40 parking spaces in the Lenox Square parking lot along Peachtree Road will be transformed into mini-parks as part of PARK(ing) Day. The event also includes activities for the Buckhead lunch time crowd. Each of the mini-parks will have interactive elements as well\, and visitors will be asked to vote for their favorites. \nPARK(ing) Day is a worldwide event where citizens\, artists\, and activists collaborate to temporarily transform parking spaces usually reserved for cars into temporary public parks or displays of art or community. \nBuckhead has a great opportunity to demonstrate the lack of public park space in the community and emphasize the importance of parks. Livable Buckhead will use PARK(ing) Day to help call attention to the need for more urban open space\, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated\, and to provide a fun opportunity for positive community interaction in an unlikely place: the Lenox Square parking lot! \n

Mike Alexander\, Director\, Center for Livable Communities at ARC\, will provide information on population growth\, employment forecasts\, job assessments\, housing\, transportation and more. \nDevelopers\, Leasing Agents\, Property Management Teams\, Facilities Teams and Human Resource Teams should not miss this opportunity to learn firsthand about demographic and growth trends for Buckhead and the Atlanta Region through this informative seminar. \nBreakfast is included. \n \n\nAbout Mike Alexander: \nHaving worked for the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) since April of 2001\, Mike is the Director of ARC’s Center for Livable Communities. The Center for Livable Communities is responsible for a range of planning and programmatic initiatives in the areas of transportation and mobility\, community development\, water resources\, and leadership development. Key activities include the development and maintenance of the Atlanta Region’s Plan\, the region’s comprehensive long-range blueprint\, and development of the Regional Transportation Plan and regional Water Supply and Water Conservation Management Plan. The center assists local governments in the development of regional plans and programs and reviews local comprehensive plans and Developments of Regional Impact (DRI). The center also produces data to inform ARC’s planning activities. This event provides an extraordinary opportunity to promote community involvement and encourage environmental stewardship\, while making an immediate and tangible impact on one of Buckhead’s newest parks. During our community planting day\, we will plant our fruit trees and work on refreshing the natural trails throughout Mountain Way Common. No previous experience is necessary\, just a willingness to pitch in\, get a little dirty\, and have some fun making a tangible difference in the park.
