SUMMARY:Yarn Mural Creation Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:Livable Buckhead is excited to team up with The Bakery\, Hands on Atlanta and Siemens to create a yarn mural project on PATH400! \nInspired by yarn bombing\, a public art technique that deploys knitted and croqueted yarn creations onto objects ranging from street lamps\, trees\, park benches\, vehicles\, and already existing public art\, this yarn mural will playfully engage passersby. This technique is used to bring brightness and joy into otherwise commonplace settings. For this project\, we will be using yarn in place of paint to create a comprehensive mural design on a chain link fence. Working in teams\, in-person volunteers will use spools of yarn to wrap the design into the chain-link fence running along a portion of the multi-use trail just north of Miami Circle in Buckhead. The finished yarn mural will be a colorful design of organic shapes\, brightly echoing nature and enlivening the PATH400 trail. \nWe invite you to watch as the mural is created\, either in-person or via livestream. \nIn-Person: Join us on PATH400\, just north of Miami Circle\, from 10am to noon and watch the yarn mural come alive as volunteers from Siemens and Hands on Atlanta weave their magic. The event is outdoors so masks are not required\, but please respect social distancing guidelines. \nLivestream: Can’t make it in-person? No problem. Join us anytime from 10a to noon on Facebook Live as we stream the progress. Make sure to like Livable Buckhead on Facebook so you’ll be notified when we begin. \n

DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, September 17th\, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.\, 50 parking spaces in the Lenox Square parking lot along Peachtree Road will be transformed into mini-parks as part of PARK(ing) Day. The event also includes activities for the Buckhead lunch time crowd\, including the only time you’ll see food trucks at Lenox Square. Each of the mini-parks will have interactive elements as well\, and visitors will be asked to vote for their favorites. \nPARK(ing) Day is a worldwide event where citizens\, artists\, and activists collaborate to temporarily transform parking spaces usually reserved for cars into temporary public parks or displays of art or community. \nBuckhead has a great opportunity to demonstrate the lack of public park space in the community and emphasize the importance of parks. Livable Buckhead will use PARK(ing) Day to help call attention to the need for more urban open space\, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated\, and to provide a fun opportunity for positive community interaction in an unlikely place: the Lenox Square parking lot!

Once rolling\, we’ll \n\nTake it slow\, stay together\, and practice our skills in a safe and supportive manner\nExperience Atlanta’s existing bicycle facilities\, like two-directional protected and/or single-directional bike lanes and sharrows.\nExperience how one can commute combining MARTA and bicycling. Thanks to an in-kind donation from MARTA\, all participants will receive a Breeze card loaded with two trips.\n\nHow to prepare\nPlease bring a bicycle in good repair that fits you and a helmet. E-bikeshare will be on hand for a free one-time use and a Relay Bike Share is nearby for rent if you do not have a bicycle available to you.
