SUMMARY:Whip It Up Wednesday with Chef Herzig: Sticky Korean Beef Lettuce Wraps
DESCRIPTION:Each Wednesday\, we will partner with peace love food chef Laureen Herzig to break up your day with easy lunch recipes and live cooking classes! Check out the shopping list for the week’s recipe below to pre-purchase the ingredients so you can follow along in your own home if you want. Each live cooking class will be hosted at 12PM and only last 20 minutes or less. \nToday’s recipe: \nSticky Korean Beef Lettuce Wraps \nIngredients \n\n1/2 tablespoon sesame oil\n1/2 tablespoon canola oil\n1-pound medium or lean ground beef\n2 cloves garlic\, minced\n1 tablespoon minced ginger\n1 tablespoon brown sugar\n2 tablespoons Beautiful Briny Sea Orange Chili Sugar\n2 tablespoons soy sauce\n½ cups thinly sliced red cabbage\nHalf head Boston Lettuce leaves separated\, cleaned\, dried\n2 scallions\, cleaned and sliced diagonally\n\nDirections \n\nHeat a large skillet over high. Add the sesame and canola oils. Allow the oils to get hot\, then add the beef and press it into an even layer. Let it cook\, without stirring\, about 5 minutes\, or until the edges become dark brown and slightly crispy.\nAdd the garlic and ginger and then stir\, breaking up the larger pieces of meat\, and cook another 2 to 4 minutes\, or until it is mostly cooked through. If there is excess fat in the pan (this happens if you use medium ground beef)\, spoon out and discard some fat\, leaving roughly 3 tablespoons of it in the pan.\nSprinkle the sugars over the meat and add the soy sauce. Stir well and cook about 30 seconds\, then add the cabbage. Stir and cook until cabbage softens just a bit\, about 3 minutes. Serve in the lettuce cups\, garnish with green onions.\n\nCooking Tools Needed \nCutting Board                                 Large Skillet \nKnife                                                   Spatula \nDry Measuring Cup                       Large Spoon \nMeasuring Spoons                           *Beautiful Briny Sea https://beautiful-briny-sea.myshopify.com/collections/sea-salt-blends-1 \n

Each week participants will have an opportunity to earn 75 points for visiting a new local park or trail during the challenge. \nInterested in learning about new parks to explore? Livable Buckhead has joined forces with REI and 9 other organizations to encourage Metro Atlanta residents to get outside and visit a local park by participating in a separate challenge called Hikes For Health. \nThis weekend heck out the Peachtree Creek Greenway. Peachtree Creek Greenway is a multi-use path connecting all communities along North Fork Peachtree Creek. Our mission is to promote the Peachtree Creek Greenway in Atlanta\, Brookhaven\, Chamblee\, Dekalb County and Doraville. The Greenway is open in Brookhaven! With your support\, the PCG will ultimately run from Doraville to the Atlanta Beltline! \nPeachtree Creek is a major stream in Atlanta.  Its two major tributaries are North Fork Peachtree Creek and South Fork Peachtree Creek. The northern fork begins at the edge of Gwinnett County and flows 13.5 miles (21.7 km)[1]  southwest\, almost perfectly parallel to Interstate 85 through DeKalb County. The southern fork\, 15.4 miles (24.8 km) long\,[1]  begins in Tucker and flows south then west. The North Fork and South Fork confluence occurs where Interstate 85 meets Georgia 400. It then flows for 7.5 miles (12.1 km)[1] almost due west into the Chattahoochee River just south of Vinings. \nLearn more at https://www.peachtreecreek.org/

SUMMARY:Weekend Warrior: Sandy Springs Conservancy
DESCRIPTION:Weekends are for greenspace! We encourage our participants to visit a local park\, trail or greenspace and just get outside over the the weekend. There’s no requirement on the park that you visit. \nThis weekend check out the parks of Sandy Springs Conservancy. The Sandy Springs Conservancy was established in 2001 in a grass-roots effort by citizens to preserve rapidly disappearing greenspace and recreation areas in Sandy Springs. Before Sandy Springs was even a city\, there was the Sandy Springs Conservancy. Parks include: \n\nOverlook Park – Situated alongside the Chattahoochee River\, Overlook Park is a world class park to be enjoyed by all.\nNorth Abernathy Greenway Park – When increasing traffic along Abernathy Road necessitated a state road widening project\, the City worked with federal\, state and county agencies to fund land acquisition along Johnson Ferry Road\, acquiring 42 homes in total.\nAbernathy Playable Art Park – Following the development of the Abernathy Greenway\, In 2010 and 2011\, SSC used a portion of the grant from Northside Hospital to build a unique destination park for children.\nSouth Abernathy Greenway Park – Following the development of the North Abernathy Greenway and Abernathy Playable Art Park\, the SSC continued with their stakeholder involvement role. Garnering neighborhood support\, the SSC brought in surrounding neighbors to design a woodland trail\, and worked with the City to build a wonderful walking trail along the South side of Abernathy and Johnson Ferry Roads toward Roswell Road.\nJohnson Ferry Tree Line Trail – In order to improve connectivity to the Abernathy Greenway Park\, the SSC worked with the neighborhoods throughout the community to raise funds and plant a significant tree line along Johnson Ferry Road to beautify and shade the sidewalks\, encouraging people to get out and walk.\n\nFor more information about these and more parks\, go to https://www.sandyspringsconservancy.org/

The multi-use greenway will eventually join with the Atlanta Beltline in the south and trails in Sandy Springs and north Fulton County\, providing a key link in a regional trail network. \nPATH400 is the first step toward implementation of the Buckhead Collection\, a planned network of 106 acres of parks and trails in the neighborhood. Livable Buckhead is spearheading the PATH400 project in partnership with the Buckhead Community Improvement District (Buckhead CID) and the PATH Foundation.

We have over 35 tiny parks to be viewed\, voted and explored! \nParks will be along the 1/2 mile stretch between Lenox and Old Ivy Roads. Urban Enterprises and Livable Buckhead staff will be available to answer any questions you may have about the experience. \nCan’t attend in-person? No problem. Livable Buckhead has created a virtual experience for all of our attendees to view and participate. This virtual event space is for people who want to gather online and view the tiny parks. The virtual space is an immersive auditory and visual experience that replicates the in-person experience\, including the voting aspect of Big PATH\, Tiny Parks and the custom soundtracks that local DJ Mike Zarin created for each tiny park.
