SUMMARY:PATH400 Water Cleanup - Maxine Rock Day of Service
DESCRIPTION:Grab your neighbor\, and join Livable Buckhead for a volunteer day on PATH400! This waterway cleanup volunteer event provides an extraordinary opportunity for Livable Buckhead to promote community involvement\, encourage environmental stewardship\, while making an immediate and tangible impact on one of Buckhead’s newest parks. \nVolunteer Tasks: \n\nCleaning up the waterway adjacent to PATH400\nGraffiti Clearing\nInvasive species removal\n\nNo previous experience is necessary\, just a willingness to pitch in\, get a little dirty and have some fun making a tangible difference in the park. Tools and waders will be provided for by Livable Buckhead and the Atlanta ToolBank. All volunteers are encouraged to bring their own water. \nProject Details: Projects will be scheduled on Saturday\, February 19th from 10 am – 12 pm and will meet at the neighborhood entrance of PATH400 (750 East Paces Road NE\, Atlanta\, GA 30305). \nAmple street parking is available adjacent to the PATH400 entrance. \nCOVID-19 Protocols: This event will be hosted outside and masks will only be required for unvaccinated individuals. If you have a known exposure\, please refrain from attending the event. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided. \n \nAbout Maxine Rock: Maxine A. Rock graduated from New York University in 1961 and from the University of Michigan in June 1963 with a graduate degree in journalism. She was a journalist and writer who authored numerous articles and books on medicine\, environment\, human relations and science. Her favorite book was the one she wrote with her grandchildren titled\, “Adventures in Faun Forest.” \nShe was a founder and President of the North Buckhead Civic Association and was instrumental in the creation of the PATH Foundation\, which has built numerous walking and bicycle trails throughout the Atlanta region\, including PATH400 in partnership with Livable Buckhead. She was a tireless advocate for the environment and maintained membership in the Sierra Club\, the Nature Conservancy and other environmental and wildlife agencies. She was an enthusiastic cyclist\, potter and painter. \nA stone plaza overlooking the detention pond on PATH400 that we will be cleaning is named in her honor.

The Center for Livable Communities is responsible for a range of planning and programmatic initiatives in the areas of transportation and mobility\, community development\, water resources\, and leadership development. Key activities include the development and maintenance of the Atlanta Region’s Plan\, the region’s comprehensive long-range blueprint\, and development of the Regional Transportation Plan and regional Water Supply and Water Conservation Management Plan. The center assists local governments in the development of regional plans and programs and reviews local comprehensive plans and Developments of Regional Impact (DRI). The center also produces data to inform ARC’s planning activities. For over 65 years\, ARC and its predecessor agencies have helped to focus the region’s leadership\, attention and resources on key issues of regional consequence. ARC is dedicated to unifying the region’s collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. It does so through professional planning initiatives\, the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships.

Only ever register with parkrun once and don’t forget to bring a scannable copy of your barcode (request a reminder). If you forget it\, you won’t get a time. \nHow fast do I have to be?\nWe all take part for our own enjoyment. SUMMARY:Buckhead Run Club
DESCRIPTION:Livable Buckhead and Iron Hill (3535 Peachtree Rd NE\, Atlanta\, GA 30326)  joined forces to create the best running club in the city. This run club is open to all levels. Run\, walk or even cartwheel – we just want to see you out on PATH400! The Buckhead Run Club is a great opportunity to get into a weekly running routine or simply enjoy the safety of a group run\, join us every Tuesday at 6:00pm at Iron Hill Brewery for this weekly run. \nBringing back group runs in a safe\, respectful and comfortable way. \nGuidelines: \n\nMeet outside at the front patio of Iron Hill Brewery.\nParking is available immediately behind in parking garage which allows free parking.\nWaters will be available as needed.\nALL paces welcome – runners & walkers.\nRoutes will be available for 2 or 3 mile workouts.\nWhen you return from your run you are welcome to hang out and visit for a bit\, enjoy a drink or food with Iron Hill Brewery.\n\nThis is meant to be a fun\, enjoyable\, relaxing\, safe experience and to help make us all feel part of a run family again.
